Brace for the Blues

In a feisty week 5 league tie, we headed down to the Game of the Day Arena for the Division 2 clash between Aston Villa and Birmingham City.

Derby days always guarantee tense affairs, and this one was no different! Birmingham fans piled into the WSA Stand (for some reason disguising themselves as Chubbins fans), whilst Aston Villa took the other side.

Early on, McFadden found an opportunity and managed to create some space on the left wing, attempting an audacious shot that was well tipped away by Brad Guzan.

Villa then began to find their feet, breaking to the other end of the pitch where the Birmingham defender opted for the safe option and put the ball out for a corner. The danger did not abate, though, and Agbonlahor outjumped the defence to head home to send Villa up 1-0.

Ben Foster then began to find his gloves again, and produced several fine saves to ensure that the game stayed 1-0.

In the second half, McFadden found space again, thundering one onto the crossbar where it fell to safety. However, City kept coming forward and Jutkiewicz volleyed one from the 18 yard box, where Guzan could only parry it and Zigic stuck the rebound in.

However, Jutkiewicz didn't go home empty handed, scoring two minutes later to make it 2-1, and ultimately secure the win and 3 points for Birmingham.

Elsewhere, there were wins for Chelsea over Chubbins, Leeds defeated Arsenal and Dynamo defeated Burnley.
